Weekly Report--Sonlight Core C Week 32

We are wrapping up our year. It's hard to believe how much we have covered and that it's nearning an end. Princess has had a wonderful kindergarten year! Here's our week in review...

LA: Princess is two book away from finishing the HOP blue level. I can't believe how fast she's going. The other day she picked up Go, Dog, Go and read it to my while I was preparing dinner, so I wouldn't be bored. She was so proud of herself! We are a few lessons from finishing ETC and once that's done, she will just be reading alittle each day to keep her skills up!

Math: Princess finished her 1A book this week! We went out to lunch to celebrate. We spent the rest of the week playing with manipulatives and working on math facts.

Core C: We are still reading and enjoying House at Pooh Corner. We also read about Menno Simmons and John Wesley in Hero Tales. I had heard of these men before, but it was nice to learn more about them. Who knew I'd be learning in kindergarten too!

Other: We took a field trip the the Horticulture Gardens close by us this week. Princess learned to identify several trees and flowers that are native to this area. We also spent some time drawing what we saw. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hope you had a great week, thanks for reading about ours! Blessings...

Weekly report-part 2

Princess said it was ok to post the pictures, so here's the pictures of the pages we put in her book of "What I wear each season" (Sorry the first one's alittle blurry, I don't know what happened!)

Weekly Report-Week 31 Sonlight Core C

Thanks to some steriods my poison ivy is healing and we had a much better week! Princess is even back to sitting on my lap at read-aloud time. I have spent the week trying to figure out our summer plans. We will do light school, probably some reading, basic math and an unit study I'm putting together. It has been a fun process but I want to make sure that princess also has time to enjoy the summer! Anyways, here's our week in review...

LA: Princess is working her way through the HOP blue book and doing well. We did a reading assement test since I hadn't done one in about six months and I was curious. She is reading at a second grade level! I was so surprised. We had a few bumps in the road at the beginning and I knew that her reading had really taken off, I just didn't realize she was doing that well. I had to share because I am so proud of all the hard work she has done!

Math: We are almost finished the 1A workbook again. Princess is doing great! We have been working more with manipulatives and this time I am sure that she understands. I haven't decided if we are going to start 1B again or just camp out and work on learning her math facts this summer and start 1B in the fall. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Core C: This week we went back to the desert and I am glad that it is over. Although princess did enjoy Wild Places, it wasn't my favorite. We also started House at Pooh Corner which has been enjoyable to read. I'm looking forward to what's going to happen next!

Science: We spent the week finishing our study of the seasons. Today we finished a book about the clothes we wear in different seasons. I'd love to share it will you, but princess said, no pictures of it on the blog! It's really cute though, she put wings on the person in the summer because that's when we see the most butterflies. So instead I'll share another butterfly picture from our DC trip.

Hope you had a great week, thanks for reading about ours! Blessings...

Weekly Report--Week 30 Sonlight Core C

Ok, so this week has not been the best for me! See my rant below, princess won't even hug me at this point because the poison ivy is so gross! Despite my misery, I got the new samples up and we actually did some school! Here's what we accomplished...

LA: Princess finished the HOP green book!!! Only the blue level to go. I am amazed at all the words she now knows how to read. What a joy it has been to be a part of teaching her to read.

Math: Princess has finished addition within 20 this week and understands it so much better than before.

Core C: The week we read about David Livingston and Harriet Tubman. Princess has enjoyed Hero Tales so much more than she did at the beginning of the year. We have finished Wizard of Oz and I'm looking forward to starting House at Pooh Corner next week.

Science: We talked about seasons this week, focusing on Spring, since it has arrived! We also took a Spring Photo Safari. Princess took pictures of all the flowers we saw as we walked through the neighborhood. Here is one of her pictures.

Hope you had a great week too, thanks for reading about ours! Blessings...

Poison Ivy Rant

Ok, so I have poison ivy and it stinks! It itches, it hurts and I look like a freak so going out in public is not an option! It's all over my neck and parts of my face, stomach and hands. How you ask? Because I forgot all about poison ivy! I haven't had it in 25 years! I didn't realize what it was, so I didn't wash it, instead I itched it and then touched other places. NOT a good idea! This is far worse than I remember it being!!! The only thing that seems to bring relief is blowing a hot air on it using my hair dryer. I admit this is very strange, but it works, so I'm blow drying my face. I guess it could be worse. Here's some pics to prove it. I never thought I'd be posting this, but in the name of science...

Weekly Report-Week 29 Sonlight Core C

We had a busy and productive week. Here's the highlights...

LA: Princess is still chugging along, we only have three steps left in the HOP green book and it looks like we will just about finish the blue level before school is done. Princess is doing well with memorizing the poem Work and I think that she will be ready to perform it next week. I have really enjoyed FLL and I'm glad that we are using it.

Math: We are at numbers 1-20 again and princess is doing so much better! She is able to do the problems with minimal explanation from me and I know that she is really getting it this time. We also started skip counting with three this week.

Art: We started Drawing with Children by Mona Brooks last week, but this was the first week we actually drew something. So here is a picture of princess's bird. It was interesting to break the bird down into elements and see what she drew!

Core C: We are still in the desert with history. Princess is enjoying the camels, but I am ready to move on. The Wizard of Oz is still the highlight of the day! Princess cried when the balloon left without Dorothy, but she wiped her tears and said, "I know she'll get back to Kansas, I can't wait to see how!"

Science: We finished the plant unit of my biology curriculum this week and princess declared that we should do it again! Don't know if we will, but we do have six more weeks left, so maybe we will. Also this week, our friends brought over a baby squirrel that fell out of one of their trees. Here's a picture of it cuddling into princess's neck. It was really neat to see!

Hope you had a great week, thanks for reading about ours! Blessings...
