I cheated a bit and looked it up. Is it a hedge apple/monkey brains. It really does look like yellow brains! Does anything eat it? More importantly could I eat it?
We were just studying these! I didn't read where people ate hedge apples but we did find a book that states people in the early 1900's would place the apples around their house and they are a natural pest repellent. You would often find them sitting on people's porches close to doors. It's the smell that keeps the pests away. We thought they were very interesting.

Lorna--
I believe that people eat it, but I've smelled it and I'm not eating it.
I can smell that thing from here.
No, I don't think you would want to eat that! :)
You always have such interesting WW pictures-you find the neatest things.
HAPPY WW!~
What an interesting character! ;-)

We call them osage oranges here in Kentucky (and in Indiana, too).
My mother-in-law uses them in her basement to keep pests away!
